It's difficult to provide for your children when the financial means to do so are still being taken away. Jobs are still disappearing. Homes are still being lost. Prices for necessities are going up. Many families are resorting to living in "Tent Cities and Shanty Towns: see on Youtube. Just Search for it.
Are we to resign ourselves into poverty and just assume "We're Camping" for the rest of our lives?
Without financial means, even a divorced parent cannot pay Child Support, afford gas to get to Visitation or buy the kid a basketball or Barbie Doll anymore.
When Obama was growing up, life was a lot different than today. I don't think he realizes that .... as I read articles where he says we should do better ... HOW?!
You are correct...life WAS different. How different? People didn't spend more than they made. People didn't buy homes as an investment. They bought them to live in them for life and have a roof on their head...not to get rich from. People looked out for their neighbors because they knew if it happened to their neighbor, it could happen to them. People moved to where the jobs were.
How do you think he doesn't realize that? His family was on welfare when he was growing up. He was the product of an interracial marriage in the 60's. You think that was easy? He wants people to realize that things could be worse and that fixes won't be overnight as the problems didn't occur overnight.
You don't have to resign yourself to be poor. If you have access to the internet (as you obviously do) you have access to help and a hand up. You just have to go for any opportunities you can find to support yourself. You can't just sit around and wait for stuff to happen to you. If you think you can't do, you won't do. So if you resign yourself to it, that's all you will be...it's self defeating.
