What are the different type of whistles used in camp?

When I go for a camp, they always have a list of whistle blows for me to follow, e.g. a call for the i/c would be continous long blows. Are these whistle blows universally used or can they be changed according to the organiser's wish?

I think they're mostly made up, because the original whistle signals used in the 17th and 18th centuries by soldiers were short tunes.
